What can we learn from studying Mayan architecture?

The Maya Indians built pyramids and temples so impressive in both size and sophistication that even to this day, it is impossible for us to know about all the motives behind such monumental creations.  We do know that there is a link between Maya calendrics and the total number of steps on the Temple of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza, and that their temples were built for both religious and scientific purposes.

All Mayan dwellings, from the smallest home to the biggest city, were built around Mayan concepts of their known universe.
